No More Mr. Blue Sky

Dear Indie Movies,

Please stop using this song. We are all tired of it, even if we still hum it when we walk down the street.

Since the following weekend is almost here, I'll give you a brief summary of last weekend: Sweaty monument jaunt through sweltering DC, visits from my family, brief annoyed encounters with rude boy scouts at Museums, visit from Georgetown Cupcake fairy, sweet signage everywhere I looked, cafeteria lady size cans of tomatoes for turkey meatballs, and patriotic popsicles.

Weekend Plans, The Instax Edition

Hello out there! I hope you haven't forgotten me. It's been a wild two weeks and the madness has yet to end. I wanted to hop on and at least post a few little Instax pictures from this weekend and maybe tomorrow I can post the full weekend plans. My sister, niece Munchie, and family came up to DC this weekend. Yeah, it was about a jillion degrees and we were still the people out looking at monuments. I'll tell you more once I post the full edition. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things with posting early on this week, but for today, this is all I got. I have missed my little blog and all of yours. I'm new to a blog and don't want it to stop being something fun, so until things get back to semi-normal with work and family stuff, things may be a bit sporadic (just watched Clueless on HBO and thought I should try to use that word in a sentence today), but I'm still here.

Hello my little blueberries! I wanted to post quickly to let you know that I'm taking a wee blogging break until next week. Admittedly, it's because of some not bad, but stressful professional opportunities that have unexpectedly come up. Rather than feed you half hearted content, I believe a mini break is good for the soul. I've really missed reading all your blogs this week and hope to catch up next week, as this weekend I also have to travel home to visit with my family before some of this work stuff prevents it for a while. I hope you are having a less stressful and wonderful week. And as always, have a lovely weekend. Above are a few early morning favorites from the Poladroid Flickr Group.

Radio Silence/ A Ring

Image via Early Jewelry

Today is wildly busy and though I want to blog, I really have to work on work stuff. I'll post Weekend Plans tomorrow, what there was of it, and thought I'd show you this ring I want. I'm random, but isn't that part of my charm? Come on. Say yes. Regardless, I'd love to wear this old coin from the Netherlands around. It reminds me of my lucky wheat penny collection I hoarded as a kid. See you tomorrow. Happy Monday!

Let the Whistle Blow

Cheez Its FTW!
Image via Kevin.Miracle on Flickr

Confession: In college I once ate 3 boxes of Cheez Its in a 5 day span. Gross? Yes. Delicious? You betcha. I go through food fazes and the Cheez It craze has hit me again. HARD.

Happy Weekend to you all. RL and my roommates will all be away, so I'm left all by my lonesome. I have big plans to do thrilling things like laundry and thesis work, but I was thinking I might take myself out for a little date. I'm not sure what I would like to do, but I know I need to impress myself. Museum? Coffee? Who knows where the weekend might take me. What are your plans? Whatever they might be, I hope they are well hydrated, near air conditioning, and pure bliss.

Drew the Right Thing

Dear Drew Barrymore,

I wanted you to know that I think you look lovelier than ever in your new Cover Girl Ads. Just last week, I loudly exclaimed to RL in super shrill voice, who I'm sure did not care, that I thought you were just getting better with age. I liked you when you were a wild Vixen, flashing Letterman, but I like this new you better. I might like this new you so much, I dig out my coupons from last weeks paper for Cover Girl and just buy whatever you want me to.

Love,

Quindome

A Cup of Prosciutto to Go

I'm not always the easiest diner to please, but something about this story, made me just long to try the wacky ice cream flavor offerings at Humphry Slocombe in San Francisco. I mean come on,while they have challenging flavors like, "Boccalone Proscitutto", they also have a flavor called "I Have a Dreamcicle". That is funny and it all looks so tasty.

A Personal Note on Dreams

I’ve been thinking a lot about dreams today. Dreams of places I want to go, things I want to do, things I want, but ultimately I realized it’s because I’ve become a bit discontent about where my life is at this moment. I’m ready to be done with thesis and move forward, but past that, I’m ready to find my calling. For the longest time, I’ve believed my life was going one way professionally and now I’m wondering if that is my true desire or a self-imposed destiny. Once I finish my thesis, whenever that might be, I may take some time away from school. It would be nice to re-imagine my life and then work from there. I feel lost without a plan and scared.

How do people figure out what they want to do for a living? I am a person who is fairly good at a lot of things, but not stellar at any one particular thing. I love many things, but can’t train my brain to move past the notion that they are hobbies and not jobs I’m actually qualified for. Damn you liberal arts education, I loved you, but what is my trade, what is my profession? Worse than all that, even though I know I have people who love me, I know I have to do this on my own. Does anyone else feel this way? I know it sounds cheesy, but I thought about what Conan said on his last show and I have to believe it is true. I'll work hard not to be cynical about my future, but just for a minute, I have to acknowledge that it's hard.

Etsy Superstar!

Woah! Just ran across this story about Christina Hendricks, of Mad Men fame, modeling for an Etsy seller. Is she cool or what!? Not only is she beautiful, but she helps her friends and supports the handmade movement.

Music To Your Ears

As a good American on a road trip this weekend, I put some Bruce on my IPOD and rocked out. It's hot as heck outside (101 in DC) and there is nothing that I would rather do today than hang out, beer in hand, listening to some good old rock. Hey, Bruce, I'm on Fire too... 'Cuz it is fifty buhjillion degrees.

P.S. Look at young Bruce. What moxy!

Jenna Lyons might be the woman I want to grow up to be. I'm pretty sure she is. Her house is amazing, Oprah thinks she is rad, and everything she touches turns to chunky, hip, gold. I truly believe that she makes J.Crew the lust worthy brand we all long to have filling our closets and I long to love my career as much as her. Jenna, do you need a new BFF? I have my friend resume ready.

Weekend Plans (The Very Late Edition)

Loads of coffee and chatting, thrifting for new mugs, going for hot hikes, hanging out in the lush greenery, and getting a new squirrel named Cheez It. I loved this weekend. I love my family. I love fireworks. It's certainly summer now.

A Mouse Made By Emerson

Hello my little blueberries! How was your holiday weekend? Mine was delightful thanks to my lovely family. I got back home yesterday and was so zonked from my good time that I didn't get to upload all of my weekend pictures. Can you forgive me? I hope so because I do fully intend to show you hopefully by tomorrow. It's hard to hop back into my Tuesday, gotta-go-to-work pants after such a long lazy weekend. I know that right now everyone is mad for all the lovely Emersonmade clothes coming out, but my favorite is the EmersonMouse. My sister B and I had such a laugh over the blog that I think I may need to get this mouse. I still like to pose Claudette, my beloved Cabbage Patch, doing things and this blog really made my day.

Let the Whistle Blow, The Early Weekend Edition

Fireworks of Alexandria

Image via Dyoshida on Flickr

I'm off to visit my family in the wee hours of the morning. I'm looking forward to spending the Fourth of July with my family, who just might love sparklers as much as me. My sister and I are already planning on doing some thrifting and I can't wait to see my mum's new home. RL won't be making the trip, which makes me sad, but he is going to see Faith No More in Philly on Saturday. Anyway, it'll be nice to be surrounded by some lovely greenery and even lovelier people. My IPOD is loaded up, the packing is underway, and I'm on my way home. I'll see you all on Tuesday. I hope your holiday weekend is full of fireworks, watermelon, and dips in the pool. Or at least a cold beer on your rooftop! What are your plans?

P.S. It's hard to leave behind the fireworks in DC... So if you are around, make sure you watch them for me. My small town definitely can't compete with the greatest display on Earth!
